Reports to: Dean of the Cathedral
MANNA (Many Angels Needed Now and Always) is a ministry of, by, to, and with people experiencing homelessness on and near Boston Common. MANNA is a community of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (Episcopal), which works closely with other service providers and city agencies.
Position Description: Support MANNA Chaplains in the work of creating welcoming, safe space for unhoused and unstably housed people through MANNA programming.
Be present when the MANNA community gathers and for staff planning and debriefing meetings:
Sundays, 8:00 am to noon
Mondays, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
Tuesdays, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
Listen to and respond to the needs, stories, joys, and writings of MANNA community members, meeting people where they are spiritually, in a non-pathologizing manner.
Offer logistical help as needed (ie: helping serve coffee, coordinating with sextons, setting up supplies for a program, etc.), under guidance of MANNA Chaplains.
In this work, be familiar with and implement the guidelines and skills set out in the MANNA Guide for Accompanying Our Community.
Work collegially with cathedral facilities team, dean, and others to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
Skills and Capacities Needs for this Position:
Ease and experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or addiction, trauma, mental illness.
Professional training such as an MSW, 2 or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education, CASAC accreditation, or equivalent preferred.
Capacity to work as a team, following the lead of MANNA Chaplains.
Flexibility and capacity to respond calmly and non-punitively to unexpected situations.
Comfort working in a progressive Christian environment serving people with a wide variety of beliefs and seeking to be a place that is welcoming people of all genders, cultures, races, and sexualities.
Willingness to complete Safe Church Training, as required of all cathedral employees, within first week of employment
