College of Engineering
The College of Engineering is an academic community of students, faculty, and staff involved in educating the engineers of tomorrow and advancing the frontiers of science and technology through research and discovery. By viewing the engineering profession as a service to humanity, the college helps students become responsible, effective members of society.
The mission of the College of Engineering is:
- to educate new generations of engineers to impact all facets of society
- to advance the frontiers of knowledge via engineering science and research
- to produce innovations from research and translate them into use for the betterment of society
- to participate as global leaders in all dimensions of science, education, technology, and society

The College of Engineering includes the departments of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and the divisions of Materials Science & Engineering and Systems Engineering.

Combined Degrees
- Through the MMEDIC program, students can earn a BS from the College of Engineering and an MD from Boston University School of Medicine.
- A combined Master of Business Administration and MS in product design & manufacture (MBA/MS) is offered jointly with the Questrom School of Business.
- A combined Doctor of Philosophy in biomedical engineering and Doctor of Medicine (MD/PhD) is offered jointly with the School of Medicine.
Late Entry Accelerated Program (LEAP)
The college also provides a pathway to a master’s degree in engineering for students who do not have an undergraduate engineering degree. The Late Entry Accelerated Program (LEAP) allows students with at least a bachelor’s degree in the liberal arts or other non-engineering fields to enter any of the college’s graduate programs and ultimately earn a Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or PhD in engineering.
Accreditation
The BS programs in biomedical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.
