Investment Issues
From time to time, the administration and Trustees of Boston University are urged by members of the faculty and student communities to alter investment holdings or practices.
The Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing provides a forum in which relevant issues can be reviewed and discussed by a group of people—Trustees, faculty members, and students—who are familiar with the University’s investment responsibilities. They will examine in detail background information and a full range of views and opinions on the issues at hand. Committee members may also engage in discussions about these issues with others in the Boston University community. After reviewing and discussing an issue, the committee will develop and vote on a policy recommendation which will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for consideration.
The first issue to be reviewed by the Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing concerned the University’s investment in companies that manufacture firearms for the civilian retail market. Information on this issue can be found here.
The second issue under review is investment in fossil fuels. Information on this issue can be found here.
