On Thursday, April 12th, Information Services & Technology (IS&T) participated in the “BU Tech Breakfast”, a breakfast-for-dinner themed networking and social event sponsored by the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground. The event offered IS&T staff a unique opportunity to connect with two Boston University student organizations interested in exploring careers in technology – Girls Who Code and the Global App Initiative.
This event marks an exciting step in IS&T’s effort to support the Thurman Center’s mission of breaking down barriers between people and engaging with BU students in new ways. After brief welcomes by Tracy Schroeder, BU’s Vice President of Information Services and Technology and Katherine Kennedy, Director of the Howard Thurman Center, students connected with staff from across IS&T to learn about their areas of expertise, roles, responsibilities, work experience and educational backgrounds. Likewise, students discussed their recent educational experiences, interest in the high-tech field and their prospective career goals with IS&T staffers.
All involved considered this event to be a success. Looking forward, IS&T will continue to work with the Howard Thurman Center to find and create opportunities for discussion with students, faculty, and staff around diversity and inclusion in technology related fields.
