Note that if you are off campus, you will generally need to connect to the VPN first, by logging in at http://vpn.bu.edu.

  1. You will need to follow the steps below each time you wish to connect. Please note that all slash characters (“”) in the instructions below are back slashes. They are produced by the key above the “Enter” key on standard keyboards. It is critical that you use the correct character because forward slashes (“/”) will not work.
  2. Go to the Start button or Start menu and choose Run.
  3. In the resulting dialog box, type servnameshare (replacing both with your actual server and share names) and click OK. You should get the values that you need to enter from the owner of the resource that you are accessing; this person will most likely be an instructor if you are a student, or a department administrator if you are faculty or staff.
  4. In the logon box that appears, enter adusername (substituting your BU login name for username) and your Kerberos password. You should then be connected to your share.
