Accessing shared network drives from a computer outside of AD
You can access Active Directory-managed drives from any computer, be it in an office, residence hall, or even off campus. Note that if you are off campus, you will generally need to connect to the VPN first, by logging in at http://vpn.bu.edu. What is Active Directory?
Active Directory (AD) is Microsoft’s network directory service, a centralized system that simplifies management of user accounts and computing resources. At Boston University, AD allows people to use BU login names and Kerberos passwords to access shared departmental resources, such as shared network drives.
