Prof. Phillipe Copeland Named a Public Impact Scholar for BU’s Initiative on Cities

The BU Initiative on Cities (IOC) has named Prof. Phillipe Copeland one of their 2022 Public Impact Scholars. Each year, the Public Impact Scholars program selects faculty from across BU to participate in an interdisciplinary cohort designed to influence positive societal change within local and state policy. As an expert in antiracist education, health equity, and carceral systems, Prof. Copeland will collaborate with other tenured, tenure-track, research, and clinical faculty for three days to approach evidence-based policymaking and community-engaged research from a holistic standpoint. Together, they’ll discuss:
- How local and state governments are structured, including their respective powers and limitations
- How cities garner and allocate their financial resources
- The best mechanisms by which researchers can influence the policy-making process
- The most effective methods of community-engaged research, including common challenges and how researchers can best address them
The 2022 cohort will meet June 13 through 15 at the IOC.
