Prof. Dawn Belkin Martinez, associate dean for Equity & Inclusion at BU School of Social Work, (BUSSW) will lead a panel presentation entitled Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Everywhere, detailing the School’s five-year ongoing initiative to center equity, inclusion, and justice and uplift anti-oppressive practice, at BU’s first annual D&I Summit on Friday, April 26.

The BUSSW team, including Profs. Ellen DeVoe, Layla Khayr, and Lyndsey McMahan, director of inclusive pedagogy, will share how they have developed a shared vision of social justice among students, staff, administrators, and faculty.  As part of the initiative, they’ve also created a School-mandated, free three-hour online course focusing on structural and institutional racism, provided pedagogical support for faculty, made curricular revisions, uplifted student voices, and introduced new anti-oppressive programs and policies. The panelists will discuss the strengths, challenges, and opportunities they’ve encountered in this process, including current evaluation interventions.

The goal of the BU D&I Summit is to share actionable information and resources with BU colleagues to adapt and implement within their units. This inaugural summit is structured as a mini-conference, with sessions running concurrently.

The event is co-organized by BU Diversity & Inclusion and Laura Jimenez, associate dean of Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion at BU Wheelock College of Education and Human Development.
