Adjusting Your Schedule.

Students may make modifications to their schedule prior to the start of the semester, but any adjustments to course loads may increase or decrease the tuition due for the semester. Modifications made during the semester may have both academic and financial consequences. The information below is general in nature. Each semester and class has specific dates for “Drop without a ‘W” grade”, “Audit Status”, and “Drop with a W grade”. Students are urged to contact the SPH Registrar’s Office if they are unsure about consequences of dropping a class or classes.

In general, students will not be financially or academically penalized for any drops processed  by the a course’s “Drop without a ‘W’ grade” date set by the school and university as long as registration in one or more courses for the applicable semester is maintained. The general dates for a specific semesters are listed in the SPH Academic Calendar.  Students should check their individual course deadlines, rather than relying on general dates.  Our course drop instructions show how to check individual deadlines.

Half semester or other non-standard courses have abbreviated drop and withdrawal schedules that may be viewed by clicking that specific class’s class meeting dates on the MyBU Student portal.

The University Tuition Refund Policy automatically goes into effect when students drop all of your credits for a given semester, as dropping all credits constitutes withdrawing.

Any full semester courses dropped after the 5th week of the semester will result in a grade of “W” being assigned automatically.  Students cannot switch to or from audit status after the drop without a “W” date.

Any full semester courses dropped after the 10th week of the semester after the “Drop with a ‘W’ grade” date set by the university must have a letter (e.g., A-, B+) grade assigned.

Student account adjustments due to adding and dropping will display in the “Student Account Inquiry” function on the MyBU Student portal. This function is accessed through the green “Money Matters” tab and selecting “Student Account Inquiry.”
