Philippine President Taps Alumnus for Climate Change Commission.
Emmanuel M. de Guzman (CERT’92) has been appointed to the Philippine Climate Change Commission by President Benigno S. C. Aquino III.
De Guzman currently serves as the country’s national consultant with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). He brings more than 20 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian action to his new role. Prior to joining the Philippine government, he worked as a consultant and adviser to the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Asian Disaster Reduction Center, and other national and international organizations.
De Guzman holds a certificate in International Public Health: Health Care in Developing Countries from the School of Public Health, as well as degrees from the University of Geneva and Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
“We welcome his expertise to the Commission,” Climate Change Commissioner and Secretary Lucille Sering told the Philippine news website Rappler. “He will be a great addition especially on our effort to mainstream climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.”
