Alumna Promotes Mental Health at BU for White House Initiative.
Dimple Mirchandani (’15) has been named an E3! Ambassador for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
Her capstone project in this role will center on expanding mental health services and public health initiatives on college campuses, beginning with Boston University.
“A main focus will be to understand the state of mental health services and access for and attitudes of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders,” Mirchandani says. “By doing so, BU can create an ongoing strategy to improve its services.”
The E3! (Educate, Engage, and Empower) Ambassadors program selected 23 young leaders for 2015–2016 to advocate for AAPIs. Ambassadors collaborate with the initiative’s regional network of more than 250 federal officials across the country to work on a broad range of issues that affect the AAPI community.
Mirchandani is currently planning for a year of professional development, diversity, and cultural connection events at BU; speaking engagements; social media outreach and campaigns; and working with administrators to improve mental health resources and awareness on campus.
Mental Health Awareness Week runs October 4-10. You can read more about the SPH Spotlight on Mental Health here.
