Fall 2013 Teaching Awards Announced.

Please join us in congratulating the faculty who received an Award for Excellence in Teaching for the Fall 2013 semester. Recipients are selected by the Teaching Awards Selection Sub-Committee which is comprised of faculty from each department. The Sub-Committee’s selection is based on a review of the overall course evaluations, including instructor ratings and student comments.

Our students were very satisfied with their experiences in the classroom this fall. They are appreciative of faculty efforts to incorporate different techniques to promote learning, to include timely topics, to engage them in exciting discussions, and to provide them with opportunities to learn and master important skills.

Timothy Heeren	BS852A1	Statistical Methods for Epidemiology “It was great that Dr. Heeren would bring in current examples of things that we were talking about in class. Recent journal articles and examples from his own experience were invaluable.” “He is incredibly skilled at communicating ideas to students and making advanced concepts understandable. His enthusiasm for the subject matter is very clear.”
Yvette Cozier	EP713D1	Introduction to Epidemiology “The organization of this course was outstanding. It was well-paced and Dr. Cozier fully covered what we needed to know at the pace we needed to know it.” “Dr. Cozier is a great instructor. She makes concepts easier to understand and is fair. It is very interesting when she talks about her work experience in the lab or on the Black Women’s Health Study.”
Lauren Wise	EP759A1	Reproductive Epidemiology “The course design was wonderful and Prof. Wise and the guest lecturers provided very interesting lectures. Professor Wise’s experience in the field of reproductive epidemiology really aided in my understanding of the class material.”

In a big core class, she does a great job of engaging entire class and supporting discussion and student contributions.”
Lois McCloskey Joan Bragar	MC802A1	Implementing Community Health Initiatives: Field-based Course/Leadership & Consult “Lois is a thoughtful, supportive, and intelligent professor with a lot of experience in the field, as a leader and as a consultant. Also, Joan Bragar brings a really unique perspective and an incredible wealth of knowledge about leadership and doing real public health work both domestically and abroad.
