Public Health Forum, April 9: Dr. Josiah Rich to Discuss Epidemics of Prison, AIDS, and Drug Overdoses.
We are in the midst of three overlapping epidemics: incarceration, HIV/AIDS and opioid overdose deaths, contends Dr. Josiah D. Rich, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at Brown University. Rich will be the guest lecturer at the monthly BUSPH Public Health Forum on Wednesday, April 9.
His talk, held from noon to 1 p.m. in room L-112, will explore the similarities and differences and synergistic overlapping aspects of these epidemics and discuss options to address all three. They are key elements of Dr. Rich’s research interests, which include the overlap between infectious diseases and addiction; incarcerated populations and public health opportunities in the criminal justice system; HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, and sexually transmitted diseases; and global health.
