Part-time Lecturer in French

Dr. Joan Listernick previously taught French language and culture at Boston College and at Boston University. She earned a PhD in Romance Languages and Literatures with a concentration in French from Boston College, and a Bachelor’s degree in the same subject magna cum laude from Harvard University. Her love of languages has prompted her to study French, Spanish, Hebrew, Latin, and – most recently – Arabic.

Before coming to BU, Joan Listernick was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Divinity School. Her research examines descriptions of Muslim women in contemporary North African literature. Her 2022 article, published in the Journal of Interreligious Studies, compares how gender is described on American Muslim and Chassidic websites.
