1. How do I declare Religion as my major?

STEP 1: Use the online form to declare your major or go to the CAS Advising Office located at 100 Bay State Rd, Rm 401, to fill out a  Declaration of Major form.  STEP 2: Meet with your advisor (to be assigned by the Religion Dept. after STEP 1 is completed).

2. How do I get an academic advisor?

Based on your area of concentration, the Religion department will make a determination on which faculty member would make the best suitable advisor for you. Email religion@bu.edu to set you up with an advisor.

3. I am trying to register for classes. How do I get my Academic Advising Code?

After meeting with your academic advisor, go to BSR 145, Suite 201, and a staff member will provide you with the Academic Advising Code that will grant you full registration privileges. You may also email staff at religion@bu.edu if you cannot retrieve your code in person.

4. I took a class at another university similar to a class taught at Boston University. How do I find out if I can transfer those credits toward my degree?

Visit the Religion office at 145 Bay State Road and fill out a Transfer of Credit Form. Bring a copy of the course syllabus with you. Professor April Hughes, the Director of Undergraduate Studies, will decide if the credits can be transferred and if so grant the appropriate signature. You may email the form to religion@bu.edu or leave it in Wendy Czik’s mailbox on the second floor.

   Religion Department policies

  • The Religion Department does not grant credit for courses taught entirely or predominantly online. Courses mostly taught in-person but with a significant online component will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • The Religion Department may grant only elective RN credit for external courses and not grant divisional humanities credit. Most world religions classes that come to us for approval do not meet our standards for humanities credit. (For example, those where the only assessment is via quizzes and exams.) The Religion Department assigns humanities divisional credit to courses that emphasize not only critical reading and thinking but analytical writing and do so on a par with expectations for our department’s courses.

5. I need to drop off a paper/exam for my professor. Where is the correct mail box?

Faculty mail boxes are located in BSR 145, Suite 203. These are the correct boxes for leaving materials with your professor.
