Kate Barrand

President & CEO, Horizons for Homeless Children

Kate Barrand serves as President and CEO of Horizons for Homeless Children, Massachusetts’ sole organization dedicated exclusively to supporting children and families within the emergency assistance shelter system. She brings extensive expertise from her career as a strategic consultant, where she partnered with C-suite executives at Fortune 500 companies, major financial institutions, and nonprofit organizations to develop marketing strategies and business realignment initiatives.

Prior to joining Horizons, Ms. Barrand founded and served as Chief Marketing Officer of Clareon Corporation. Her executive experience includes leadership of strategic planning and global strategic marketing at BankBoston, where she demonstrated her ability to drive organizational transformation and stakeholder value.

During her tenure at Horizons for Homeless Children, Kate has transformed the nonprofit financially and programmatically, building an organization that’s helping children and families succeed through early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. A champion for young children, Kate initiated the design and construction of the Edgerley Family Horizons Center to serve 30% more children and their families, providing a stimulating and nurturing educational experience while setting a new standard for the facilities’ housing services for at-risk communities. Over her tenure, revenue has grown 81% and Horizons has built a highly sophisticated layered funding model for its early education program. Kate’s passion for improving the well-being of the Horizons workforce has incorporated fostering an environment where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are valued.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology and Development from Tufts University and an MBA specializing in Marketing and Finance from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
