Participants from various NSF programs gathered on the 9th floor of the Photonics building for a poster session. Both students and teachers got the chance to present their research projects as well as wind down as the summer program ended.

A few of our REUs went to the Women in Photonics Discussion and Networking event, where they listened to Dr. Dalma Novak’s experience as a female engineer as well as learned career advice and strategies for women working in photonics today.

REU participants began their 10-week research program with introductions, meet-and-greets, professor presentations, as well as case study group work.

Professor Bennett Goldberg led a two-hour mentor training session for grad students and faculty in preparation for the REU programs. The session entailed round table group discussions about mentorship programs, diversity inclusion, communication, and more.
