Heine Discusses the Path Forward for Chile’s President-Elect
Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, published an op-ed in The Wire on Chile’s President-elect Gabriel Boric and the challenges he may face in fulfilling his political ambitions.
In the article, titled “Chile’s Youngest President-Elect Gabriel Boric Has a Unique Chance to Right Many Wrongs,” Heine discussed Boric’s path to the presidency and the work to be done before he takes office on March 11, 2022, including coalition building and fine-tuning of his agenda. Boric’s agenda focuses on issues such as pensions, health and tax reform, as well as other issues that aim to benefit all Chileans; however, without a majority in Congress, Heine argues that the incoming president has a lot of work ahead of him in order to ” lift Chile into another stage of its development and leave behind the malaise that has affected the country over the past few years.”
