Heine Discusses Challenges to the Contemporary Global Order
On December 13, 2021, Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, spoke during the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) virtual Partnership Summit – CII’s annual flagship international event. The Summit captured the perspectives of leading experts on growth, development, sustainability, and technology in alignment with CII’s larger theme for 2021-22: “Building India for a New World: Competitiveness, Growth, Sustainability, Technology.”
In his remarks, Heine elaborated on the crisis of the current global order, which is moving from a unipolar system to a more decentralized structure. He explained that the current tensions between the United States and China are putting the countries of the Global South in a difficult situation, for which a strategy he dubs Active Non-Alignment option is the best alternative.
