Heine Speaks at Lecture Comparing Asia and Latin America
On March 29, 2021, Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, spoke at a virtual event hosted by Canning House – London-based think tank focused on Latin America – on the similarities and differences between Asia and Latin America. The panel was chaired by Michael Stott, Latin America editor of the Financial Times, and featured Heine as well as Margaret Myers, Director of the Asia & Latin America Program, Inter-American Dialogue, and Mauricio Cárdenas, Visiting Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University.
The Canning Conversation, titled “Comparing Latin America and Asia,” explored the similar development challenges the regions have faced and the different approaches they took that resulted in wildly different outcomes. During his remarks, Heine discussed the importance of Latin American-Asia relations, how uncoupling relations between the two regions is likely to fail, and why Asia has seen considerably more growth as Latin America.
A recording of the event can be viewed on Canning House’s website.
