Neurophotonics Center

The mission of the BU Neurophotonics Center is to build and support an interdisciplinary community that can develop and broadly deploy impactful photonics technologies to advance our understanding of how the brain works in health and in disease. The Center interacts with over 40 faculty and their more than 80 trainees from across 12 different departments at BU.

Deploying Photonics Technologies in the Neurosciences

Efforts range from developing and applying novel microscopy methods to resolve the activity of thousands of individual neurons from diverse brain regions to non-invasive functional near infrared spectroscopy for measuring human brain activity in ecologically valid settings for neuro-rehabilitation and cognitive science applications.
