Trump 2.0 after Inauguration Day

in Immigration Actions Trump 2.0
January 21st, 2025

Many different offices at BU are reviewing the numerous executive orders that President Trump signed yesterday, January 20th, on his first day in office. There were a number of immigration-related orders directing federal agencies to shift resources to the US southern border that changed procedures for asylum seekers and broadly stated plans to enhance visa screening processes. However, to date there are no new restrictions to travel in non-immigrant categories (F-1, J-1 H-1 etc.) similar to the travel bans enacted during the first Trump administration. Immigration reform remains one of the new administration’s top priorities. While it is still too early to know what may change moving forward and speculating may not be helpful, we will update this page and send email announcements about relevant changes as they develop.

As always, we encourage our students and scholars to make thoughtful decisions about international travel, to carefully maintain valid nonimmigrant status and documentation and to connect with their ISSO advisor should they have any questions.
