Hannah Connell, Communications Assistant for the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is an undergraduate student in the College of Arts & Sciences pursuing a BA in Marine Science. As an aspiring marine biologist and science communicator, she is dedicated to sharing impactful stories that advance conservation. At Boston University, Connell is a member of the Kaufman-Deyle Lab in the Department of Biology. Her research focuses on remote sensing methods to quantify coral reef recovery in the Caribbean. She is the editor-in-chief of The Emerald Review, Boston University’s environmental student-led publication, and a university ambassador for Women in Ocean Science, a global non-profit empowering women to thrive in ocean-related careers.
Prior to joining IGS, Connell interned at the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Civic Innovation, where she helped create a data network model to address food insecurity in the community, and more recently worked as an office assistant in the Department of Earth & Environment.
At Boston University, Connell is interested in the intersection of science and advocacy. She hopes to develop her skills in science communication to contribute to the public understanding of scientific research and advocate for environmental conservation.
