Farbin Fayza
Graduate Student Summer Fellow, IGS Electrical & Computer Engineering
Farbin Fayza, a 2024 Graduate Student Summer Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is a PhD Student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Her research focuses on the carbon sustainability of emerging computing systems, deep neural network accelerators, and photonics-based computing systems.
Fayza was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She holds a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
As an IGS Graduate Student Summer Fellow, she is investigating the carbon sustainability of photonics-based computing systems. In particular, she is evaluating the carbon emission of photonics-based computing systems during their manufacturing, and when they are used in data centers and autonomous vehicles for running artificial intelligence applications. Her faculty advisor is Ajay Joshi, Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering and her project title is “Assessing the Carbon Sustainability of Photonic Computing for Artificial Intelligence Systems.”
