Adham Badawy

Adham Badawy, a 2024 Graduate Summer Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is a PhD student at the department of Earth & Environment at Boston University. His research interests lie in developing decision support systems and tools for policy makers to ensure equitable and sustainable water use and allocation. Before that, he was a researcher at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) working on water productivity and water governance. Prior to IWMI Badawy worked at Zewail City of Science and Technology, Egypt, as an assistant teacher of hydrology and supervised several undergraduate students. He also completed an internship on the Water Conflict Chronology at the Pacific Institute, USA. Badawy has a background in Water and Environmental Engineering from Cairo University. He also completed a master’s degree on water management and governance at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands.

As an IGS Graduate Student Summer Fellow, he will research how treated wastewater reuse can be utilized as a climate adaptation measure for agriculture. This research proposes to explore the “wastewatershed” concept as a novel framework to predict the success of wastewater reuse schemes in mitigating climate-induced water scarcity. His faculty advisor is Andrew Bell, Associate Professor in Earth & Environment, and his project title is “Cultivating Resilience: Wastewatersheds as Beacons of Climate Adaptation in Agriculture.”
