Events that Affect Participation

It is important that you understand how your long-term disability benefits are affected when you take a leave of absence or you no longer work a full-time schedule.

In addition, if you participate in the Boston University Retirement Plan, you may be eligible for the Monthly Retirement Plan Waiver Benefit.

If you are receiving disability payments and die, your unmarried dependent children may be eligible to participate (or continue their participation) in the Tuition Remission Program.

Taking a Leave of Absence

If you leave work for any reason for a prolonged period, you should contact Human Resources to ask how your absence may affect your participation in the LTD Plan.

If You Work Less Than 100% of a Full-Time Schedule

You must work 100% of a full-time schedule to retain the long-term disability insurance. If you no longer work full-time, your long-term disability insurance coverage will end on the date you change to less than full-time status.
