Restrooms and Locker Room Facilities

BU policy allows transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming employees to access to restrooms and locker room facilities consistent with their gender identity.

In addition, state and local laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression.

Restrooms

Did you know that BU has more than 700 all-gender restrooms on campus? All are single-stall restrooms and marked with the sign “Anyone can use this restroom regardless of gender identity or expression.”

Access a map of all on-campus, all-gender restrooms here. Please note:

  • All community members have unrestricted restroom access according to an employee’s gender identity. You may decide which restroom to use.
  • You should never be required to use the restroom of your gender assigned at birth.
  • You may opt to use single-occupancy all-gender or multi-stall gendered facilities.
  • You will not be required to use a single-occupancy or all-gender restroom if you are more comfortable in a multi-use restroom.

Locker Rooms

Similar to bathrooms, employees who use the Fitness & Recreation Center (located at 915 Commonwealth Ave) can utilize restrooms and locker room facilities consistent with their gender identity. There are four private changing rooms on the lower level of FitRec, in the hallway leading to the Aquatics Center, which function as gender-inclusive changing facilities. In addition, FitRec has gender-inclusive bathrooms located on the first floor and on the L1 level.
