All residents are required to move out by Saturday, May 10, 2025, at noon, unless they are participating commencement or are living on campus for summer session 1.

Graduating seniors can move out through Monday, May 19, 2025, 10 a.m. Please note that Harry Agganis Way will be closed on Sunday, May 18, 2025, for Commencement exercises.

Procedure

  • Students must remove ALL their items from their room. Please remove all of your belongings, and leave the room or apartment in a clean and habitable condition. All furniture that was in your room when you moved in is expected to be there and arranged as you found it. BU will not store/ship any items remaining in rooms after the student has left campus. All remaining items will be considered abandoned and may be discarded.
  • Return your key to your hall/area Residence Life office. You are responsible for turning in your keys to your residence office whenever you move out. If you fail to properly check out and turn in your keys, you may be charged additional residence and lock/key fees.
  • If you have not already done so, update your home mailing address on the MyBU Student Portal. If you receive your mail via USPS, update your information online here.
  • Moving carts will be available for your use.

Storage and Shipping Options

Boston University partners with The UPS Store to provide students with safe, convenient, and economical shipping and storage options. There are multiple convenient pick-up and drop-off locations on the Charles River Campus during the move-out process. Students are responsible for the cost to store or ship their boxes/items.

Mail and Packages

Before leaving campus, students are encouraged to visit their mailroom and collect any first-class mail remaining in their mailbox.

If you’re moving off campus from a traditional-style residence, always remember to update your home address in the MyBU Student Portal, so that your mail can be forwarded. If you’re moving from an apartment-style residence (other than 10 Buick Street and 33 Harry Agganis Way), you must complete a change-of-address form online at USPS.

Parking

Students using moving trucks, vans, and box trucks should avoid the following roads: Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge. These roadways are restricted to “cars only” and have height restrictions as low as nine feet. These type of vehicles will exceed this height limit and will likely strike or become stuck under the overpasses.

Please download and print your temporary Move-Out Parking Permit and display it on the dashboard of your vehicle when parked in approved BU parking locations. Some of the approved parking lots may have a lowered parking gate. The QR code found on your permit can be scanned at entrance and exit kiosks to raise gates during your move-out period. You may also use your phone to capture the QR code for use when scanning to raise these gates, however, your permit must still be printed and displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle.
