Beginning her PhD in Fall 2024, Melinda Whalen is currently studying Soviet history under the mentorship of Professor Alexis Peri. She has a B.A. in War History and Russian Language, Literature, and Culture from the University of Washington. Her research focuses on the conceptualizations of Soviet identity and selfhood in personal media (such as diaries, letters, and postcards) during the war and post-war periods.
