Caryne A. Nicholas entered the PhD program in 2021 after receiving her BA with honors in History from Boston University, and later she earned her MA in History from Boston University in 2023. They currently study twentieth century queer and Afro-German History with a geographic focus on the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) under Dr. Jonathan Zatlin. Their research interests revolve around understanding and complicating queer identity development through visual culture and space/place, kinship and care bonds built between women and queer folx, and more generally, the relationship between queer communities and authoritarian regimes.
