GCI Colloquium: Cecilia Han Springer on China’s Overseas Coal Plants
Cecilia Han Springer joined the Global Development Policy Center this past Wednesday to kick off the GDP Center’s Global China Initiative Speaker Series. In a talk titled “Exceptional Investments: Analyzing the Relative Environmental Performance of China’s Overseas Coal Plants,” Han Springer shared her work analyzing the energy sector, the portion of China’s One Belt One Road Initiative that receives the largest share of BRI investment. Inspired by patterns in media narrative that spur fear about China’s overseas coal plants, the Harvard postdoctoral candidate analyzed the energy efficiency of such plants to determine if their environmental impact is cause for concern.
Join the GDP Center for its our next seminar in the Global China Initiative Speaker Series on March 3 with Professor Min Ye for her talk about her new book, “The Belt Road and Beyond: State-Mobilized Globalization in China 1998-2018.”
