Getting to Know FitRec Staff: Scott Nalette
Scott Nalette first started at BU in 2005 as a Grad Assistant for FitRec and his journey to BU was fueled by his overall hard work and commitment. While getting his undergraduate degree at Plymouth State he worked in recreation. His hard work impressed his boss, which led to him being recommended for a GA position here at BU, a position that allowed him to get his MeD in Leisure. Since becoming a terrier in 2005 Scott never looked back. He is now the Intramural and Club Sports manager, a position he has held for 10 years!
Scott is in charge of making sure that the intramural and club teams are running efficiently. However, Scott’s work goes beyond making sure that the there are no issues with intramurals and club sports. He works with clubs teams and helps them with recruiting, retention, budgeting, and assists with anything else they may need.
What Scott enjoys most about this job, which I think we can also assume most people working it FitRec enjoy, is working with the best and brightest BU students. Scott is all about the students. Being here for over 10 years means that Scott has seen many students go in and out the FitRec doors. He’s seen students grow from hesitant freshman to strong and confident seniors. One of his most memorable experiences was with an international student who came to work for FitRec. English was not the student’s first language and Scott was able to witness the student’s English improve as well as his comfort dealing with people in his non native language.
Despite being a New England Native and NE sports fan, Scott doesn’t see himself as a huge sports guy. Outside of work he spends most of his spare time going to concerts. Artists like Ray Lamontagne and Iron & Wine are his go-tos. As a self-taught guitar player coming from a musical family, it’s no surprise that Scott is such a fan of music. He’s even said that one day he hopes to perform for a small audience. It wouldn’t be a big audience and he wouldn’t be the lead singer, he’d just love the chance to see how it feels. Scott’s other secret dream? Comedy. He hopes one day to do a stand up comedy set. “I might get booed off the stage but at the very least I’d like to try it. It’s such a departure from my everyday life”
Now that you’ve learned a little bit about Scott, don’t hesitate to stop and chat if you see him roaming FitRec! Maybe you can get him to tell you a joke or two!
