BME Junior Faculty

Meet some of our remarkable junior faculty, and the broad range of their research disciplines.

Samagya Banskota, PhD

Samagya Banskota is an assistant professor of BME. Her lab focuses on overcoming delivery barriers for macromolecules within the body to advance precision genome editing therapies for rare genetic diseases.

Brianne Connizzo, PhD

Brianne Connizzo is an assistant professor of BME. Her lab studies tissue maintenance, specifically in the musculoskeletal system, and how the cellular responses to repair and replace damaged tissue change throughout life.

Brian DePasquale, PhD

Brian DePasquale, Assistant Professor of BME has always been fascinated with the brain. His lab uses machine learning, neural networks and dynamic systems to understand brain function.

Liang Hao, PhD

Liang Hao is an assistant professor of BME. Her lab focuses on integrating engineering perspectives and disease biology to improve healthcare with precision, adaptability, and portability.

Miguel Jimenez, PhD

Miguel Jimenez is an assistant professor of BME.  His lab develops electronic and mechanical devices that natively interface with biology – sensors and actuators with integrated microorganisms.

Hadi Nia, PhD

Assistant Prof. Hadi Nia’s lab works at the interface of physics, biology and immunology, developing unique technologies to study organ function at the cellular resolution, and organ-organ cross talks.

Tim O’Shea, PhD

Tim O’Shea is an assistant professor of BME. His lab focuses on researching and developing new treatment strategies for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, through new biomaterial-based approaches.

Erica Pratt, PhD

Erica Pratt is an assistant professor of BME. Her lab builds liquid biopsy assays for minimally invasive cancer monitoring, bridging the gap between complex tumor biology and personalized medicine.

Matthias Stangl, PhD

Matthias Stangl is an assistant professor of BME. His lab focuses on the intersection of cognitive neuroscience, neuroengineering, and data analysis, to address key questions about human cognition and behavior.

Michelle Teplensky, PhD

Michelle Teplensky is an assistant professor of BME. Her lab harnesses nanostructures to program the immune system, leading to better immune understanding and improved therapies to treat diseases.

Adriana Tomic, PhD

Adriana Tomic is an assistant professor of BME and Virology, Immunology & Microbiology.  Her research focuses on the immune system, and how to prevent future pandemics by developing more effective vaccines.
