What to expect
During your first appointment, you will undergo a comprehensive oral examination, which will lead to a diagnosis and a treatment plan. This treatment plan may include cost determination. This first appointment typically takes about 60-90 minutes. During this session, all the required dental records, consent forms, and treatment plans will be completed.
Once the treatment plan is agreed upon by the patient and the providers—both the resident and their supervising faculty—a treatment schedule will be established. Treatment duration will depend on what condition is being addressed. The complete surgical treatment for dental implants, for example, can take between 3-12 months due to the required healing time, although some patients may require less time. On average, the implant itself heals in about three months.
