There are a variety of ways to work as a student employee in a support role for a CS course, either in the classroom or behind the scenes. See below for more information on a number of opportunities we offer in the Department of Computer Science as well as details on the application process.
Please note that all student employees must be on campus in order to be hired as one of the below positions.
Graders
Description: Graders are responsible for the timely grading of problem sets, projects, and exams for their assigned class for the duration of the semester. Grading work typically takes place behind the scenes, and specific assignments and deadlines vary between classes and course instructors.

Eligibility: Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. students are all eligible to serve as graders and typically must have previously taken the course they are applying to grade for. Transfer courses or classes taken at another institution may be considered as viable experience at the discretion of the instructor.
Pay Rate: $750 total for the semester.
Expected Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per week (may vary per course).
Course Assistants
Description: Course Assistants (CAs) support students in several of the department’s foundations courses and provide the unique perspective of fellow undergrads who have recently learned the material. CAs are expected to assist with one of the lab/discussion sections for the course they are assigned to. Additionally, CAs host their own office hours, grade assignments, and answer inquiries from students via email or through the course’s Piazza website.

Eligibility: Course Assistantships are open to undergraduate students who have previously taken the course they are interested in assisting with. Additionally, CAs must have completed at least CS 111 and CS 112 (or equivalent coursework).
Pay Rate: $1,500 total for the semester.
Expected Time Commitment: 5-6 hours per week (may vary per course).
Teaching Assistants
Description: Teaching Assistants are responsible for leading discussion or lab sections (3-4 sessions maximum per week) for their assigned course. Additionally, TAs typically must host weekly office hours and answer questions from students posted on course websites such as Blackboard or Piazza. Lastly, TAs may grade homework assignments, projects, or exams as needed throughout the semester.

Eligibility: Masters, BA/MS, or Senior Undergraduate students, especially those with previous experience in classroom instruction. Students must be in-person to work as a TA.
Pay Rate: $7,500 total for the semester
Expected Time Commitment: 15 hours per week
