Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 06/23/23
General Project Information
- Daily Work Hours from 6 am – 3 pm. ( 6 am for interior work per ISD permit)
- The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department and is in place.
- Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
- Jersey barrier site containment in place, pedestrian walkway also in place and operational. The city sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
- Boston police detail is on site daily assisting with traffic control and safety.
- Bike lane is fully functional in front of Kilachand Hall.
- BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain a “no parking zone”. This will continue for the project duration to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allow the construction team to safely contain a work area north of the dormitory.

During the Weekend of June 24th
Saturday, June 24th: 7 am to 3pm
- Consigli: 2 workers on site providing site supervision.
- Mass Acoustics: 8 workers taping on levels 1 and 9, fire-stopping in stairs, and installing doors and frames in the existing stair.
- SOS: 4 workers working down from level 4, scraping floors for carpet install preparation.
- Cheviot Ceilings: 2 carpenters installing tiles on level 9.
- Murphy Electric: 10 workers installing light fixtures and finish devices on levels 1 and 9, light rough in at the recycling areas on all floors, and finishing stair pressurization wiring on level 9 and the roof.
- Royal Steam: 6 workers installing exhaust duct to the fire pump room, level 1 bathroom rough in, recycling room riser, and the RGD drops on 9 and 1.
- Titan: 6 workers focusing on the southwest roof installation, coping caps on the southwest and southeast roofs.
- Safway: 12 workers total, 1 elevator operator overseeing elevator function, the remainder of the crew will be removing scaffolding in the west alley.
- Egan Painting: 2 painters continue with paint and preparation on floors 2-9.
- Riggs: 6 workers providing general cleanup from the basement to 9. 2 workers installing closet shelving on level 9 and installing screens throughout the building.
During the Week of June 26th
- Code Red Consultants on site testing the new stair pressurization system.
- Boston Fire will be on site to get started on the various tiers of equipment testing and final inspections.
- BrandSafway to continue with scaffold removal on the east and west sides of the building.
- Royal Steam HVAC continuing with work in the level 9 mechanical room, VRF system piping connections, and installation of the HVAC wall-mounted units.
- Murphy Electric to continue with light fixture installation, completion of fire alarm work, and rough in to continue in recycling alcoves.
- Mass Acoustics to continue with partition and soffit framing tie-ins from new construction to existing on all dorm room floors. Fire pump room shaft wall construction and sheetrock installation at ceilings on level 9. Taping and mud throughout all floors as part of the summer painting upgrades.
- Cheviot Ceilings to continue with ceiling tile installation on levels 1 and 9.
- Titan working on metal panel detailing on the southwest roof area and laying the southwest roofing membrane.
- JC Floors installing tile work on the level 9 core locations and carpet on dorm room floors working down from level 7 to 6.
- Riggs masonry will start work on the 2nd-floor low roof parapet.
- Egan Paint to continue patching, taping, and painting on floors 2 through 9.
- LRS to continue with 2nd shift, installing new light fixtures throughout the building as part of BU’s energy-efficiency lighting upgrade, finishing on the 3rd floor and then getting started on the 2nd.
- Consigli/Riggs team on site for cleaning, site support, and supervision.
