CISE/SE Alum Inducted Into NC State University Computer Science Hall of Fame
The Induction celebrates Vitolo’s career in academia, energy policy, and public service.
CISE Alumnus Tommy Vitolo (PhD SE ’11) has been inducted into the North Carolina State University Hall of Fame for his “career in academia, energy policy, and public service.” Vitolo received degrees in Economics, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics from NC State from 1998-2000.
In 2011, Vitolo graduated from Boston University with a Ph.D. in 系统工程. Advised by Professor David Castañón (ECE, SE), his research focused on optimizing environmental and energy-related policies. After graduation, Vitolo launched into a career as a technical expert and policymaker. He is currently a Senior Associate at Synapse Energy Economics where he advises clients on technical elements or energy systems that benefit both the company and community. He was also elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature in 2018.
Vitolo has always strived to address community problems through mathematical applications. He feels his technological background adds a crucial perspective to the policies the House passes, as the policies contain many technical elements.
