Predicting and Optimizing Language Outcomes (POLO)
Study Focus: In-person POLO studies seek to understand the difference between: a) children with ASD who start with language delays but make gains during early school years, and b) children with ASD who remain minimally verbal.
Recruiting: POLO is currently recruiting children ages 3 1/2 – 7 years with or without Autism Spectrum Disorder OR children or young adults who have already participated in any other CARE study, any age.
Brain Correlates of Repetitive Speech in Autism
Study Focus: The purpose of Project ECHO is to better understand how the brains of young children with and without autism work when they speak. More specifically, we are interested in looking at repetitive speech, also called ‘echolalia,’ in children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Recruiting: Project ECHO is currently recruiting children ages 2 years 6 months to 6 years 11 months with or without Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Promoting Early Intervention Timing and Attention to Language (PETAL)
Study Focus: Investigating the language and social communication development of children with an older sibling with autism by monitoring and supporting their development through a series of home visits.
Recruiting: children 6 to 8 months old who are younger siblings of children with ASD.
Assessing, Characterizing, and Observing Reading and Number Skills in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ACORN)
Study Focus: ACORN is a remote study investigating, the reading, number, and letter skills and experiences of of children with ASD who have difficulties with spoken language.
Recruiting: Children 5-8 years old with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and limited spoken language.
Gathering Evidence to Optimize Decisions (GEODE)
Study Focus: GEODE focuses on learning about how visual stimuli and sensory perception impact decision making in adolescents (11-21 year olds) with Autism Spectrum Disorder, specifically individuals who are minimally verbal to non-verbal. GEODE will be conducted remotely via ZOOM, with potential for in-person participation.
Recruitment: GEODE is recruiting adolescents ages 11-21 years old with or without ASD.
