Geena Davis (CFA’79, Hon.’99) (right) and Madeline Di Nonno (CAS’82) accepted the Governors Award on behalf of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media at the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 12, 2022. Davis, the Academy Award–winning actor, is founder and Di Nonno is president and CEO of the institute, a research-based organization that works within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion, and reduce negative stereotyping in family entertainment media.
The Governors Award honors individuals, companies, or organizations that have made profound, transformational, and long-lasting contributions to the arts and science of television. “Since 2004, the institute has been fighting for equality and representation, long before it was comfortable to take that stand,” according to selection committee cochair Kim Taylor-Coleman.
