Advice for the Class of 2021: “Don’t Be Afraid to Dream Big”
Advice for the Class of 2021: “Don’t Be Afraid to Dream Big”
In our annual rite of passage, faculty and staff offer this year’s graduates tips for the road ahead
This past year, COVID-19 reshaped daily life all over the world in ways big and small. For the BU Class of 2021, senior year—the culmination of four years of hard work, fun, friendships, growth, and some sacrifice—has been a lot different than they ever could have imagined. A year topped by a Commencement ceremony unlike any in BU history, with only grads allowed on Nickerson Field, no proud parents or grandparents or (possibly) bored siblings. Oh, and two ceremonies, one for grad students, one for seniors.
Before you graduate, BU Today made sure to preserve one time-honored tradition. Each year before Commencement, we reach out to members of the BU community and ask them to share some words of advice and encouragement with the graduating class.
So once again, BU faculty and staff offer words of reassurance (it’s OK if you have no idea what you’re going to do with your life) and inspiration (use your voice, your power, and your magic for good). They talk about the importance of listening and of standing up for others. And they have some suggestions for the road ahead.
Take a look. And graduates, take a moment to celebrate yourselves. You’ve made it through an extraordinary year.
Congratulations to you all!
