Asian Studies
The Center for the Study of Asia within the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies offers a major in Asian Studies and a minor in East Asian Studies. The major focuses on East Asian and South Asia, with attention to Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Rim. The focus of the minor is on China, Japan, and Korea. Both the major and the minor provide a broad interdisciplinary and comparative perspective in an effort to deepen understanding of how, over time, these societies have dealt with problems common to all humanity, and how they view the world and themselves. The programs can combine courses in anthropology, history of art and architecture, economics, geography, history, international relations, political science, religion, and sociology, as well as language and literature. Students are encouraged to establish a firm basis in a specific discipline as well as to achieve a broad understanding of the Asian experience.
