Academic Advising

The College provides extensive academic advising opportunities for both freshman and sophomore students. A professional advisor is assigned to each team. Advisors in both years provide academic and developmental advising and help with educational planning, career exploration, decision making, and adjustment and personal concerns.

Robert W. Emery Writing Center

Located in the Katzenberg Center on the third floor, the center is a comfortable space where CGS students can meet with faculty to strengthen their writing and close reading skills. This is an excellent opportunity to receive one-on-one help with writing assignments, e.g., close reading, developing a thesis, documentation styles, and more. Additionally, you may consult with the staff about organizational skills and study strategies.

Peer Mentoring Program

The College of General Studies Peer Mentoring Program, established in 1980, offers free mentors to students in the College. The mentors are outstanding sophomore students who have been recommended by the faculty, as well as several former College of General Studies students who are juniors and seniors at Boston University. Peer Mentors discuss strategies and activities of successful scholars, but do not provide content tutoring.

The Marilyn & Jeffrey Katzenberg Center

Located on the third floor of the College of General Studies building, the Marilyn & Jeffrey Katzenberg Center is a quiet reading/study area with wireless access, and includes small conference rooms that can be reserved for study groups.

The Brendan Gilbane Lounge

Located on the lower level of the College of General Studies building, the Brendan Gilbane Lounge is a quiet study area with wireless access, and includes small conference rooms for group study.
