- OTP AS 101: Leadership Laboratory (taken each semester)
Augments the AFROTC academic curriculum by providing prospective Air Force officers the opportunities and feedback needed to develop the leadership, managerial, and supervisory skills required of successful Air Force officers. Applications include Air Force customs and courtesies, drill and ceremonies, problem solving, communications, and learning about career opportunities available to commissioned officers. Instruction is conducted within the framework of an organized cadet corps with a progression of experiences designed to develop leadership potential. - OTP AS 110: Foundations of the U.S. Air Force
Examines the role of the U.S. Air Force in the contemporary world. Topics include background, mission, and organization of air force and functions of U.S. strategic forces. Emphasis is placed on development of written communicative skills. - OTP AS 120: Foundations of the U.S. Air Force
Continues study of the contemporary U.S. Air Force by examining general purpose forces, aerospace support forces, and the total force structure. - OTP AS 210: Evolution of USAF Air and Space Power
Traces the historical development of air power and its uses starting before the Wright brothers and extending through the Korean War. Concentrates on the advent of the air age, the airplane at war (1914-1918), the interwar years, air power in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, air power in the Korean War, and the evolution of air power concepts and doctrine. Emphasizes student participation and presentations to enhance communicative skills. - OTP AS 220: Evolution of USAF Air and Space Power
Traces the historical development of air power and its uses starting after the Korean War and continuing through its present role in international policies. Emphasizes air and space power experiences from the Vietnam conflict and operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Continues emphasis upon student participation and presentations to enhance communicative skills. - OTP AS 310: Air Force Leadership Studies
Management and leadership from the point of view of a U.S. Air Force junior officer. The individual motivational and behavioral processes, leadership, communication, and group dynamics are covered to provide a foundation for developing the junior officer's professional skills. - OTP AS 320: Air Force Leadership Studies
Continues OTP AS 310 with special emphasis on the basic managerial processes involving decision making, use of analytical aid in planning, organizing, and controlling in a changing environment. Actual U.S. Air Force cases used. - OTP AS 410: National Security Affairs
Study of the military's role as an institution in a democratic society. Topics include civil-military interaction and the military as a profession. Emphasis on developing communicative skills through student presentations. - OTP AS 420: Preparation for Active Duty
"Preparation for Active Duty" is a survey course designed to give Senior AFROTC cadets an overview of the subject material. Cadets are expected to emerge with an in-depth knowledge of all the topics covered in this course. While some areas are covered in detail, many others are covered more broadly. Overall AS420 is a vehicle to help you become Air Force officers and to facilitate your transition to active duty. - OTP MS 101: Introduction to the Army and Critical Thinking I
Introduces cadets to the personal challenges and competencies that are critical for effective leadership. Cadets learn how the personal development of life skills such as critical thinking, time management, goal setting, stress management, and comprehensive fitness relate to leadership and the Army profession. The focus is on developing basic knowledge and comprehension of Army leadership dimensions while gaining a big-picture understanding of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, its purpose in the Army, and its advantages for the student. - OTP MS 102: Introduction to the Army and Critical Thinking II
MSL 102 introduces Cadets to the professional challenges and competencies that are needed for effective execution of the profession of arms and Army communication. Through this course, Cadets will learn how Army ethics and values shape their army and the specific ways that these ethics are inculcated into Army culture. Cadets will explore the Seven Army Values and the Warrior Ethos, investigate the Profession of Arms and Army leadership as well as an overview of the Army, and gain practical experience using critical communication skills. 1 cr., 2d (Spring) Semester - OTP MS 103: Leadership Lab
- OTP MS 201: Innovative Team Leadership
Explores the dimensions of creative and innovative tactical leadership strategies and styles by examining team dynamics and two historical leadership theories that form the basis of the Army Leadership Requirements Model (trait and behavior theories). Cadets practice aspects of personal motivation and team building in the context of planning, executing, and assessing team exercises and participating in leadership labs. Focus is on continued development of the knowledge of leadership values and attributes through an understanding of Army rank, structure and duties, and basic aspects of land navigation and squad tactics. Case studies provide tangible context for learning the Soldier's Creed and Warrior Ethos as they apply in the Contemporary Operating Environment (COE). - OTP MS 202: Foundations of Tactical Leadership
Examines the challenges of leading tactical teams in the complex Contemporary Operating Environment (COE). Highlights dimensions of terrain analysis, patrolling, and operation orders. Further study of the theoretical basis of the Army Leadership Requirements Model explores the dynamics of adaptive leadership in the context of military operations. Provides a smooth transition into MS 301. Cadets develop greater self-awareness as they assess their own leadership styles and practice communication and team-building skills. COE case studies give insight into the importance and practice of teamwork and tactics in real-world scenarios. - OTP MS 203: Leadership Lab
- OTP MS 301: Training Management and the Warfighting Functions
This is an academically challenging course where Cadets will study, practice, and apply the fundamentals of Army Leadership, Officership, Army Values and Ethics, Personal Development, and small unit tactics at the platoon level. At the conclusion of this course, Cadets will be capable of planning, coordinating, navigating, motivating and leading a squad and platoon in the execution of a mission during a classroom PE, a Leadership Lab, or during a Leader Training Exercise (LTX). 3 cr., 1st (Fall) Semester - OTP MS 302: Applied Leadership in Small Unit Operations
MSL 302 builds on the lessons learned and leadership attributes gained and developed during MSL 301. This is an academically challenging course were Cadets will study, practice, and apply the fundamentals of Army Leadership, Officership, Army Values and Ethics, Personal Development, and small unit tactics at the platoon level. At the conclusion of this course, Cadets will be capable of planning, coordinating, navigating, motivating and leading a squad and platoon in the execution of a mission during a classroom PE, a Leadership Lab, or during a Leader Training Exercise (LTX). 3 cr., 2d (Spring) Semester - OTP MS 303: Leadership Lab
- OTP MS 401: Mission Command and the Army Profession
OTP MSL 401: Military Science and Leadership (MSL) 401 Mission Command and the Army Profession MSL 401 explores the dynamics of leading in the complex situations of current military operations. Cadets will examine differences in customs and courtesies, military law, principles of war, and rules of engagement in the face of international terrorism. Cadets also explore aspects of interacting with non-government organizations, civilians on the battlefield, the decision making processes and host nation support. The course places significant emphasis on preparing Cadets for Basic Officer Leadership Course-B and their first unit of assignment. It uses mission command case studies and scenarios to prepare Cadets to face the complex ethical demands of serving as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. 3 cr, 1st (Fall) Semester - OTP MS 402: Mission Command and the Company Grade Officer
MSL 402 has Cadets explore the dynamics of leading in complex situations during Unified Land Operations; examine the Art of Command; learn how to properly communicate with and develop Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers; discuss situations on how ethical decisions impacting personnel and the unit mission; and learn how Comprehensive Soldier Fitness (CSF), Being Ready and Resilient (R2C), and Individual and Family Readiness can assist leaders in preparing Soldiers and their Families on reducing and managing stress during times of uncertainty. The course places significant emphasis on preparing Cadets for Basic Officer Leadership Course-B and their first unit of assignment. It uses mission command case studies and scenarios to prepare Cadets to face the complex ethical demands of serving as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. 3 cr, 2d (Spring) Semester
