Kilachand Honors College courses will satisfy some or all of the general education requirements for students in each undergraduate school or college. Which requirements Kilachand Honors Courses fulfill varies by school, college, or program.
School of Management
Students entering prior to September 2013
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies liberal arts electives for SMG students. Honors College courses will fulfill three Level A electives, three Level B electives, and the writing requirement. If students have fulfilled these electives in other ways, they may work with their SMG advisor to use the Honors College curriculum to fulfill other SMG liberal arts electives.
Students entering in September 2013 and later
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies CAS WR 100, the three Liberal Arts Distribution Requirements (one Natural Science, one Social Science, and one Humanities), and three (of four) Liberal Arts Electives. If students have fulfilled these electives in other ways, they may work with their SMG advisor to use the Kilachand Honors College curriculum to fulfill other SMG liberal arts electives.
School of Hospitality Administration
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies 32 credits of distribution requirements for SHA students as follows: CAS WR 100, CAS WR 150, one humanities course, one natural science course, one social science course, and 12 general elective credits.
School of Education
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies the following: two humanities courses, two laboratory science courses, two social science courses, CAS WR 100, and CAS WR 150 for secondary education and deaf studies majors.
College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies writing credit, humanities electives, social science electives, and general electives for students in the Human Physiology, Health Science, and Speech, Language & Hearing programs. The courses and requirements fulfilled vary by program, as follows:
Human Physiology: CAS WR 100 and CAS WR 150, one humanities elective, two social science electives, and two general electives.
Health Science: CAS WR 100 and CAS WR 150, two humanities electives, two social science electives, and one minor/specialty elective.
Speech, Language & Hearing: CAS WR 100 and CAS WR 150, two social science electives, and three general electives.
College of Engineering
The Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies the 24-credit general education requirement for students in the College of Engineering, which includes the following: CAS WR 100, CAS WR 150, one general education elective, and three social science or humanities electives.
College of Communication
The Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies 32 credits toward COM degree requirements. COM will work with Honors College students to determine—based on their individual circumstances and aspirations—the ways in which Kilachand courses will contribute to the fulfillment of each student’s degree requirements. COM will provide academic advising to Kilachand students to determine how Kilachand courses will fulfill their COM degree requirements.
College of Fine Arts
Completion of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies liberal arts electives for CFA students. The electives fulfilled vary by program, as follows:
School of Theatre: 28 credits of liberal arts courses are required to complete the course of study for graduation. Completion of the Kilachand curriculum fulfills liberal arts requirements for School of Theatre students as follows: writing requirement, one CAS liberal arts elective, two CAS history of art & architecture electives, two CAS social science electives, one Shakespeare elective.
School of Music: 28 credits of liberal arts courses are required to complete the course of study for graduation. Completion of the Kilachand curriculum fulfills liberal arts requirements for School of Music students as follows: freshman writing, four liberal arts electives, two English literature courses, two general electives.
School of Visual Arts: At least 28 credits of liberal arts courses are required to complete the course of study for graduation. Completion of the Kilachand curriculum fulfills 28 credits of liberal arts requirements for School of Visual Arts students.
College of Arts & Sciences
Students entering prior to September 2013
Completion of the first year of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies CAS WR 100 and CAS WR 150. If a student has satisfied the writing requirement at another department, they will receive Divisional Studies credit in the discipline of the Kilachand seminars they have taken. Completion of the second year of the Kilachand Honors College curriculum satisfies two Divisional Studies courses. Through petition with a Kilachand advisor, students will use the sophomore course to fulfill a maximum of one Divisional Studies course in two of the following three divisions: natural science, social science, humanities.
Students entering in September 2013 and later
Students who complete all Kilachand Honors College coursework and elect to take freshman seminars in two divisions outside of their major division can complete the CAS WR 100 and CAS WR 150 foundational requirement in writing as well as their CAS general education breadth requirements with the exception of the Mathematics and Computer Science divisional requirement. Students pursuing majors within the Mathematics and Computer Science division may need to take one additional course in either CAS or Kilachand to complete their general education requirements.
