Licensure of Educational Personnel

Many professions for which students prepare in the School of Education require licensure by the state, commonwealth, or district in which students wish to practice. The University licensure officer is prepared to assist students seeking licensure. Appropriate course selection, under the guidance of faculty advisors, will be made to meet licensure standards. It is important that a student discuss his or her professional goals with an advisor at the initial conference and throughout the course of his or her academic program. For each program offered leading to a specific license or level of licensure in Massachusetts, a specific sequence of courses is required. A description of each sequence and information about requirements are available in the office of the appropriate department chair. Any additional Massachusetts Board of Education requirements and the collection of documents required to meet licensure requirements, however, are the responsibility of the student.

Students completing a Massachusetts-approved teacher licensure program may also be eligible for licensure in most other states through NASDTEC interstate reciprocity agreements. It is critical that students keep abreast of requirements in other states where they wish to seek licensure.

Title II Annual Institutional Report on Teacher Preparation

Since 1999/2000, Section 207 of Title II of the Higher Education Act has mandated that each teacher preparation institution submit an annual report on the performance of students and make this report available to the public. In Massachusetts, this information is recorded as students’ performance on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure. The chart below provides the most recent 波士顿大学 report for the 2008/2009 program year. 波士顿大学 does not require a student to pass any part of these tests prior to acceptance into a program. We believe that 波士顿大学 standards should be the basis of admission.
